Hold up on submitting those hospice late bills. "Hospice add-on claims (also known as late bills) are no longer allowed for dates of service April 1, 2012, and later," HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS reminds hospices in its April HHH Medicare Bulletin.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services eliminated add-on claims "to avoid possible duplication of payment, and to simplify administration of the Medicare Program," CGS notes in the Bulletin.
Mind the deadline: "Hospices needing to submit physician charges that were inadvertently omitted from the original hospice claim, must now submit these charges on an adjustment claim (type of bill 8X7)," CGS instructs. Adjustment claims are subject to Medicare timely filing guidelines, which changed to 12 months in 2010.
